Match Report

Batting first, Gujarat posted a total of 152 for eight and then defended the total by restricting UP to 144 for five.

Laura Wolvaardt (43:30b, 8x4, 1x6) and skipper Beth Mooney (74 not out: 52b, 10x4, 1x6) shared a stellar 60 runs stand for the opening wicket to take the team off to a flier. However, after the first wicket, Gujarat lost wickets at regular intervals.

Skipper Mooney carried her bat through whereas Ashleigh Gardner and Kathryn Bryce made mini contributions. Gujarat ended their innings at 152 for eight. For UP Warriorz, Sophie Ecclestone was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets.

UP Warriorz were off to the worst possible start with the bat. Shabnam Shakil was all over the batters. She took early wickets and left the opposition tottering at 35 for five.

Deepti Sharma and Poonam Khenmar joined hands and bailed the team out of trouble. They took the game deep and kept their team in the hunt with their 109-run partnership.

UP needed 26 runs in the last over and both Deepti (88 not out: 60b, 9x4, 4x6) and Poonam (36 not out:36b, 3x4, 1x6) tried their best but couldn’t take the team past the finishing line.

They fell short btw just eight runs and ended on 144 for five.
