Mumbai Indians demolished UP Warriorz by 42 runs in the 14th match of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Thursday. Batting first, after winning the toss, Mumbai posted 160 for six and then restricted UP to 118 for nine.

Mumbai Indians had a poor start to their innings as both the openers Hayley Mathews and Yastika Bhatia cheaply. But after that, Nat Sciver-Brunt (45:31b, 8x4) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (33:30b, 3x4, 1x6) brought the team back in the game and added 59 runs for the third wicket. Amelia Kerr (39:23b, 6x4) then played a vital hand and later S Sajana (22 not out:14b, 4x4) finished the innings on a high. Mumbai ended with 160 for five. For UP, Chamari Athapaththu was the pick of the bowlers with figures of two for 27.

UP Warriorz displayed a poor performance with the bat and failed to get going. They lost wickets right from the start and were tottering at 69 for seven with all the big names back in the hut. Grace Harris (15:23b, 2x6) and Shewta Sehrawat (17:15b, 2x4, 1x6) tried to up the ante but failed as they lost wickets after starts. Deepti Sharma (53 not not:36b, 6x4, 2x6) was the lone warrior for her team but couldn’t manage to take her team past the finishing line. UP posted just 118 for nine and lost the game by 42 runs.
