Women's Premier League, Match 20: Delhi Secures Final Berth with Dominant Victory

Delhi Capitals made it to the final of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 as they made it to the top of the points table with a seven-wicket win over Gujarat Giants in the final league match.

At the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, Gujarat posted 126 for nine in their 20 overs. In response Delhi chased down the target in 13.1 overs to finish on 129 for three.

Earlier, Gujarat was struggling at 48 for five. Then Bharti Fulmali (42) added 68 runs for the sixth wicket with Kathryn Bryce. But towards the end Gujarat lost a few wickets in a heap and they ended on 126 for nine in their 20 overs. For Delhi the best bowlers were Marianne Kapp (2-17), Shikha Pandey (2-23) and Minnu Mani (2-9).

In their response, Shafali Verma teamed up with skipper Meg Canning to give a solid start. Verma then carried on the innings with Jemima Rodrigues (38). The Verma-Rodrigues stand was worth 94 runs for the third wicket. Verma ended on 71 off 37 balls with seven boundaries and five sixes. In the end Delhi ended on 129 for three in 13.1 overs. For Gujarat the best bowler was Tanuja Kanwar (2-20).

Delhi have now made it to Sunday’s final directly. They will await the winner of Friday’s eliminator clash between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
