Match Analysis
Delhi snatch thrilling win off last ball
Delhi Capitals prevailed in a tense last ball finish over Mumbai Indians in the second game of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 edition at the Kosambi Stadium in Vadodara on Saturday by two wickets. Asked to bat, Mumbai posted 164 in 19.1 overs and in response Delhi chased down the target off the last ball to finish on 165 for eight.
Earlier, Mumbai was well served by a 73 run third wicket partnership between Nat Sciver-Brunt (80 n.o.: 59b, 13x4) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. But after that there was a collapse as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. The Mumbai score slipped from 105 for three to 164 all out. For Delhi the best bowlers were Annabel Sutherland (3-34) and Shikha Pandey (2-14).
In their response Delhi were off to a quick start as skipper Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma added 60 in 5.5 overs. Then there was a collapse as Delhi slipped from 60 for no loss to 76 for four. Then a 33 run fifth wicket stand between Niki Prasad and Sarah Bryce put the chase back on track. Towards the end there were useful contributions from the lower order as the Delhi batters ran helter skelter. Off the very last ball, Arundhati Reddy survived a close run out call to seal the deal for Delhi. For Mumbai the best bowlers were Hayley Matthews (2-31) and Amelia Kerr (2-22).
