Rajasthan Royals won their second consecutive game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 as they defeated Delhi Capitals by 12 runs in Jaipur on Thursday. Asked to bat, Rajasthan posted a total of 185 for five at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. In their response Delhi tumbled at stages and couldn’t get the momentum in their innings as they ended with 173 for five.
It wasn’t a pleasing start for Rajasthan with the bat as they lost early wickets and were tottering at 36 for three. Rajasthan promoted Ravichandran Ashwin (29:19b, 3x6) to number five and the move paid off as he scored quick runs and brought the team back into the game. The hero of the innings for the home side was Riyan Parag (84 not out: 45b, 7x4, 6x6) as he played his best IPL innings and made sure Rajasthan ended with a big total on board. Riyan’s power-packed knock took his team to a total of 185 for five. For Delhi, every bowler picked one wicket each.
Delhi had a powerful start to their innings as Mitchell Marsh (23:12b, 5x4) attacked bowlers. But the wicket of Marsh brought another for Rajasthan as Ricky Bhui bagged a two-ball duck. However, skipper Rishabh Pant (28:26b, 2x4, 1x6) and Warner (49:34b, 5x4, 3x6) kept their side in the chase with their 67-run partnership for the third wicket. Delhi came under pressure after Pant and Warner got out. But Tristan Stubbs (44 not out: 23b, 2x4, 3x6) and Axar Patel (15 not out: 13b, 1x4) revived the hopes of fans as they hit a flurry of boundaries. But Avesh Khan oozed his class with the ball in the last over and won the game for his team.
