The Ashleigh Gardner-led side beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six wickets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday. Asked to bat, Bengaluru could manage just 125 for seven, which Gujarat chased with more than three overs to spare.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru was off to a poor start with the bat as they lost three quick wickets and were left reeling at 25 for three. With the team under pressure, Kanika Ahuja (33:18b, 2x4, 2x6) and Raghvi Bist (22:19b, 1x4, 2x6) added 48 runs for the fourth wicket.
But they both fell in quick intervals as Bengaluru was reduced to 78 for five. Georgia Wareham (20:21b, 1x4), in the end, played a vital hand as the home team posted a total of 125 for seven. For Gujarat Giants, Deandra Dottin and Tanuja Kanwar picked two wickets each.
Renuka Singh took Bengaluru off to a flying start with the ball in the second chase as she removed Beth Mooney and Dayalan Hemalatha. Then Georgia Wareham sent Harleen Deol packing to leave Gujarat Giants at 66 for three.
However, skipper Ashleigh Gardner (58:31b, 6x4, 3x6) stepped up big time for her side as she slammed a vital half-century and added 51 runs stand with Phoebe Litchfield (30 not out: 21b, 3x4, 1x6) for the fourth wicket. Their partnership ensured that Gujarat completed a comfortable six-wicket win.
