total-play Ltd has cricket in in its blood. MD David Bates, a former cricketer and First Class Groundsman, is backed by a team that knows the sport inside out, with a pedigree of designing, building and maintaining cricket playing surfaces that meet the standards demanded by the modern sport.

Artificial cricket pitches
total-play was first artificial cricket pitch supplier to be awarded England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Code of Practice Installer for the Design and Installation of Non-Turf Systems status. The company has gone on to draw on its team’s unique combination of experience as both cricketers and professional groundsmen to develop no less than three ECB approved non-turf cricket pitch system designs.

These include the flagship tp365 system which, featuring a premiere wilton woven carpet, exclusively designed ‘Protection Tunnel’ netting system and a dynamic base which has been designed to offer a balanced game between bat and ball and encourage turn. tp365 can be found at clubs playing from grass roots to professional level across the country in both artificial match pitch form and synthetic cricket practice net facilities. tp5t shares tp365’s dynamic base, netting designs and all of the playing characteristics but with a less inexpensive - tufted - carpet. tpB1 is the latest addition to the range; offering a bound (Asphalt) base option. The tpB1 system comes with a premiere wilton woven carpet and the netting system used with the tp365 system. The bound or engineered described base design offers greater stability in flood risk areas and initial maintenance requirements in high use open sites.

Fine turf cricket pitches
total-play also offers a range of natural turf services to county grounds, cricket clubs and schools. From the construction of new cricket tables to maintenance and remedial works on cricket squares and outfields, the company’s in-house team of experienced groundsworkers has access to state-of-the-art laser guided equipment. David, meanwhile, draws on his experience as Head Groundsman at Northamptonshire C.C.C, Chairman of the First Class Groundsman Committee and as a trainer and pitch advisor the Institute of Groundsmanship (IoG) to offer expert advice and plan works to ensure optimum performance.

Cricket ground product development

total-play’s offering does not end with cricket pitch design and management. Over the years, it has developed a range of class-leading products for the cricket ground; including the renowned Climate Cover System™; the only truly breathable flat sheet cricket ground cover on the market, as used by all UK Test Match venues for over fifteen years. Other products include the ‘Rain Cover’ - the most cost effective cricket cover currently available through the NatWest CricketForce initiative - mobile cricket pitch covers, sight screens, electronic scoreboards and more – all available via the company’s online store www.thecricketgroundshop.co.uk , with special discounts available to NatWest CricketForce clubs.
