Match Analysis

Asked to bat, Bengaluru posted a total of 196 for seven, in response, Chennai managed just 146 for eight.

Phil Salt (32:16b, 5x4, 1x6) took Bengaluru off to a flying start with the bat as he took attack to bowlers right from the start. He added 45 runs for the opening stand with Virat Kohli (30:31b, 2x4, 1x6), who looked scratchy in his innings.

Devdutt Padikkal (27:14b, 2x4, 2x6), who batted at three, played a magical cameo to up the ante, but Chennai bowlers kept chipping with wickets at regular intervals.

Skipper Rajat Patidar (51:32b, 4x4, 3x6) had his fair share of luck but he cashed on that and slammed a magnificent half-century to keep his team on track. Tim David (22 not out:8b, 1x4, 3x6) provided a great finishing touch, hitting three sixes in the last over, as Bengaluru posted a total of 196 for seven. For Chennai, Noor Ahmad picked three wickets.

Chennai had the worst possible start to their chase as they lost their three wickets inside in the powerplay and were left reeling at 26 for three. Rachin Ravindra (41:31b, 5x4) tried to hold one end, but he didn't get support at the other, with Bengaluru bowlers putting continuous pressure on batters.

With the team at 99 for seven, Ravindra Jadeja (25:19b, 2x4, 1x6) showed some fight, but it didn't last long. MS Dhoni (30 not out:16b, 3x4, 2x6) in the last over provided some entertainment to fans but the target was beyond reach as Bengaluru restricted Chennai to 146 for eight to win the game by 50 runs.
