Match Analysis
Asked to bat, Bengaluru posted a total of 221 for five, in response, Mumbai scored 209 for nine.
Phil Salt fell in the first over for Bengaluru, but after that, it was carnage from Virat Kohli (67:42b, 8x4, 2x6) and Devdutt Padikkal (37:22b, 2x4, 3x6). They made a mockery of the Mumbai bowling line-up, slamming the ball all over the park for their 91-run stand for the second wicket.
Skipper Rajat Patidar (64:32b, 5x4, 4x6) also slammed a brutal half-century. He first added 48 runs partnership with Kohli and then later Jitesh Sharma (40 not out:19b, 2x4, 4x6). The Patidar-Sharma duo added 69 runs for the fifth wicket as Bengaluru posted a massive total of 221 for five on the board.
Mumbai, yet again, had a dreadful start to their innings in the IPL. Rohit Sharma (17:9b, 2x4,1x6) and Ryan Rickelton (17:10b, 4x4) perished early as the hosts lost their first two wickets for just 38 runs. Will Jacks (22:18b, 2x4, 1x6) and Suryakumar Yadav (28:26b, 5x4) although added 41 runs for third wicket but both of them looked scratchy as Mumbai lost four wickets for 99.
However, Tilak Varma (56:29b, 4x4, 4x6) and skipper Hardik Pandya (42:15b, 3x4, 4x6) clinched the game in Mumbai's favour with their brilliant power-hitting. The duo added 89 runs off just 34 balls to put Bengaluru under pressure, but both lost their wicket within the span of three balls. With 19 runs needed off the last over, Krunal Pandya picked three wickets to take his team home as Bengaluru beat Mumbai by 12 runs.
